Te Ara Tupua is the project to create a walking and cycling link and improve transport resilience between Wellington and Lower Hutt, as well as improvements to the marine habitat and water quality to restore the diverse marine life in the harbour. As a result, work has commenced to begin to build 54 engineered reef "pyramids" as part of the reef enhancement work to help restore the diverse marine life under the Ngā Ūranga ki Pito-One (Ngauranga to Petone) section of Te Ara Tupua. ▶ The Tale of Tuvalu | 2019 (5:50)
In the Pacific region, encroaching waves haunt islanders' dreams; particularly in Tuvalu's archipelago where rising sea levels are on the verge of swallowing two of its nine islands. This project proposes the construction of a series of floating farms made from locally available materials, using native flora and upcycling common waste products from imported goods.

In this episode, Hugo shares with us his AAA Visionary Architecture Finalist project concerning climate change and sea level rise in the Pacific Atoll nation of Tuvalu. Hugo's project is centered around embracing floating and amphibious architecture in Tuvalu, looking towards local and sustainable materials that will enable Pacific communities to not only craft their own future and livability, but also allow for the passing down of traditions through generational practice and maintenance of the proposed floating farms.
